Drive-through Dinner – October 8

The Women of St John’s are planning the second annual drive-through dinner, for Saturday, October 8. Serving times will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and again from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Meatball making will be Thursday, September 22, at 4:00 p.m., with Lefsa baking dates to follow. Almond cake baking will be Thursday, October 6,  at 9 a.m. Look for sign-up sheets in early September. All proceeds will go to support our two missionaries (Lori Lehnherr and Ed Swanson) as well as local charities. Thank you for your support to WELCA. ~Bonnie Gilbertson

Lefse Making Dates:

Three dates have been chosen for making lefse: Friday, August 26, Friday, September 9, and Saturday, September 24. We will begin rolling at 8:00 a.m. Another date will be decided soon. The lefse will be made for the dinners served at the Fall Drive-Through Dinner on October 8, 2022, and also for selling packages of three rounds in a package. It is with great pleasure to announce that we have Ryan & Shannon Anderson learning all the steps in making/packaging/selling lefse, and are serving as chair people along with me. They could be calling/emailing you for your response to helping. Ryan & Shannon began helping two years ago, and both were quick learners of rolling/baking. I hope to have many of you faithful workers coming again, and hope to have those come who have never helped who are eager/willing to learn.     – Karen Kreul

Volunteers are Needed for Sunday School

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED In order to make Sunday School run smoothly, we need the help of everyone. We are looking for people willing to:
  • Be a lead teacher for a season
This may sound like a big undertaking, but we will provide you with complete lesson plans, assistance with managing the class, materials and instructions for projects and lots of support
  • We are looking to split the children up by age groups (at the very least into younger and older groups), but will only be able to do so if we are able to find enough teachers to do this
  • Be a substitute teacher when needed
  • Be a teacher’s aide: You’ll be asked to help the lead teacher with managing the class, helping with projects and sharing the message
If you are interested in helping with Sunday School, please contact Wendy Parsons at wendysparsons@gmail.com.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF (LWR) DONATIONS

Each fall Lutheran churches in southern Wisconsin join together to load railroad boxcars with supplies for LWR. We are asking the congregation for help making School and Personal Care kits. Please keep others in mind as you are out shopping this summer. A collection basket and supply lists are in the Gathering Area. We will be collecting items until the end of August. Thank you.

LWR School Kits
Imagine having to choose between a meal or purchasing a notebook. Pencils and paper can help write a positive future.
Kits made last year went to Peru, Syria, and Jordan.
• 70-sheet notebooks of ruled paper, wide or college ruled
• blunt scissors
• 30-centimeter rulers (or centimeters on one side & inches on the other)
• pencil sharpeners
• unsharpened pencils
• black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink)
• 2 ½ inch erasers
• boxes of 16 or 24 crayons

LWR Personal Care Kits
LWR Personal Care Kits are shared with people who have lost everything from a natural disaster or violence.
Kits made last year went to Syria.
• Light-weight bath towel (Maximum 52 x 27 inches), dark color preferred
• bath-size bars of soap, 4-5 oz. (in  original wrapping)
• adult size toothbrush (in original wrapping or multi pack)
• sturdy combs (no picks or fine toothed)
• metal nail clippers

LWR Quilting Materials
As you clean out closets and cupboards, keep St. John’s Quilters in mind. Donations of large pieces of fabric, sheets, mattress pads, blankets and thread are always appreciated.

Wear Your Name Tags

With many new faces in the congregation and at the pulpit over the next few weeks, it’s time to dust off our nametags! Take a look in your name tag box to make sure you have name tags for you and your family. We’d like to have a name tag for everyone when Pastor Ellen is here on July 30 & 31, and then get in the habit of wearing them again to help her get to know us! If you’ve forgotten your mailbox number, or maybe need additional name tags, just stop by the church office and we’ll take care of that.
