Confirmation

Confirmation

Grades 7 – 9

Our confirmation program begins the fall of 7th Grade and is designed to create opportunities for interaction and fellowship as well as learning and service.  Classes focus on preparing students to affirm the promises that were made by their parents and sponsors when they were baptized. These are the same promises they will confirm at their Affirmation of Baptism:

To live among God’s faithful people;

To hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper;

To proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed;

To serve all people following the example of Jesus; and

To strive for justice and peace in all the earth.

The curriculum for the program focuses on the foundations of the ELCA faith:  the Bible; Luther’s Small Catechism;  worship and prayer.  Confirmation classes for 7th and 8th grade youth typically meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00pm until 7:30pm, September through May.

A capstone faith project, including a faith statement, a bible verse and a stole to be worn at confirmation, allow the student to express their belief in God in their own creative way.  This project is assembled during the fall of 9th Grade.  Youth are confirmed in Fall of their 9th grade year.

Worship as well as periodic fellowship, retreat and service events at the church and off-site are integral parts of the confirmation experience.
